Global trend towards PTFE free non-stick cookware

The latest survey into the purchasing patterns of American consumers conducted by US housewares magazine Homeworld has revealed for the first time that more than half (50.9%) of consumers would now prefer to buy cookware with a non-stick coating that is PTFE free.

The growing trend towards PTFE free non-stick cookware (up from under 40% in the previous year) is a result of increased global awareness of the health concerns associated with the synthetic substance which can release potentially harmful toxic fumes when heated above 260 C.

Furthermore, PTFE non-stick cookware has come under scrutiny due to the chemical PFOA which is emitted into the environment in the PTFE coating application process. PFOA has been classified by the US environmental protection agency as a 'likely human carcinogen'.

Users of GreenPan cookware however can rest assured that their pots and pans will never release toxic fumes into their home or the environment. GreenPan cookware is naturally free from both PTFE and PFOA featuring a patented ceramic non-stick coating called Thermolon™ Rocks.
